Steampunk furniture made from reclaimed plumbing pipes
You can imagine our glee when we found out about Axel Ybergs steampunk-inspired range of designer furniture. Constructed from mostly reclaimed iron steam fittings and plumbing pipes, these futuristic pieces have a mishmash of live-edge wood, steel-framed reclaimed timber, cast cement and glass that make them cooler than any furniture weve seen for quite a while.
These goggles have a black base coat with an antiqued silver finish and pewter finished extension rings on each eye cup. Painted and finished with a flat protective clear coat. Each extension ring is secured by three brass knurled nuts and a set of three silver gears. Pewter gears are in each eye piece as well and gears are mounted to each side with brass acorn nuts and silver hexagonal stand-offs. They include 2- 50mm clear lenses, 2-50mm shade 3 green lenses, and an elastic head strap. The lenses can be removed and exchanged or replaced. One of a kind. Thanks for viewing.
The Chamber de Commerce alias Cdc is an absolutely fabulous Stock Exchange location, located in a busy city and surrounded by ugly concrete buildings. Only the four relative narrow passages are giving a small glimpse of what the inside of this beautiful queen has to shown. The current building is a reconstruction from 1872. The original building dates from 1531, this late Gothic styled stock market has been burned twice [1583 and 1858]. The CdC is built on top of an existing street intersection with originally no roof, only four covered streets, the still existing and impressive galleries. Around 1853 the square and galleries where covered with a dome modeled on the Crystal Palace in London. Today this beautiful trade building is in a dilapidated state! The wooden floor is completely loose, walls are starting to crumble, painted wands and ceilings are fading to grey. Moisture and pigeons have left their devastating marks. And the painted emblems on the stunningly curved main ceiling are rotting and falling down! In 2003 the Stock Exchange was closed following a report on fire safety. Since then nothing more was done to protect this abandoned work of art. There where plans for a new future as an exhibition hall and ballroom. In 2008 the city announced that a private investor would renovate the Stock Exchange and would make an agora with stores. They would also have space for a grand cafe, restaurant and several small shops. The city issued a building permit for the ambitious plan of a luxurious hotel, but in practice very little happened to give the building new live! In the outbuildings we see evidence of work, so possible one has yet begun the previously scheduled work. When the renovation of this monumental building will begin remains unclear. Amazing how a building with such a long history could be abandoned, left behind into decline.
When working with metal, it takes a true master to breathe life into their artwork. Russian artist Igor Verniy does just that with his beautiful and elegant articulated steampunk animal sculptures. Their moving parts and Verniys attention to detail makes them come alive. A lot of work goes on behind the scenes before Verniy creates his artwork. He observes his creations living counterparts to ensure that he captures their movements just right. Then, he assembles them from various pieces of scrap metal old car parts, bike parts, clock movements, tableware, and anything else that fits.

The exterior was originally covered entirely of painted green canvas to make it waterproof. The interior and pull drawers were covered in a thin cloth textile. Both exterior and interior coverings were carefully removed, all wood surfaces scrubbed with a non-toxic cleaning solution, let to dry, and then very lightly sanded revealing the beautifully grained and seasoned pine wood body and oak wood slats that only 100+ year old wood can achieve.
The sheet metal was polished and then refreshed in a Black Japanning of Black Oak. The hardware latches and lock was polished revealing the now oxidized but original brass gilting. Afterwards the entire trunk was covered in two applications of spar varnish to preserve and bring out the highlights of the grain and character of the wood and all hardware. New leather handles and end caps replaced the older worn out leather. This trunk features 4 heavy duty front and side latches, extraordinally thick pine wood construction, could be placed right up against a wall via its “space saving” feature when opening it up. Each drawer has its original brass pulls. Working lock but no key.
These model trunks were not your typical travelling trunk as they were way heavy and cumbersome for relatively easy transport and confined use aboard ships, trains, or stage coach. As mentioned above, these antique trunks were typically used by travelling theater and circus groups which went from town to town performing their arts. They needed to have large trunks with easy access from which to put their costumes, mirrors, and makeup. These type of trunks were also a mainstay for the pioneer families settling the west in that they would easily fit into and be used on a daily basis inside a prairie schooner, covered wagon, or Conestoga. And when they reached their homestead destination the trunk was then able to be used as a “space saving” dresser in their new log home when living in the prairie wagon was no longer necessary!
Recycling waste of our industrial society is the inspiration of my artwork. All of my sculptures are entirely hand made from recycled scrap metal such as copper, brass and steel . I create art with all kinds of technology and techniques to soften the design despite the roughness and robust properties of the material. Therefore I create art with a respectful atmosphere and sometimes funny or even cynical view of reality. My work emphasizes a balance between the form and function. It blurs the line between utensil and decoration. I’ve created various functional objects such as lamps and clocks who’ve been made from heavy metal scrap into mechanical decoration with an industrial style which I like to call Steampunk Art.
Oh, how I love rhinestones. Flash, brilliance, movement. Layers of handwoven wire, a purple blue eye and a fringe of rhinestones, makes a one of a kind pin brooch. Add the accompanying 20 inch chain and it becomes a statement piece. How much fun can one piece be….
The Art Donovan Steampunk Lighting collection will have you wondering if you’ve gone back in time. The inspiration for this line of lamps comes from Donovan’s steampunk art, and these functional oil lamps have an intricate character you won’t find in modern designs.

Fantastic-looking Custom Made Steampunk Bullet Shell Chess
According to an author: First, note the quarter placed in the images for a size reference. The board for this set was made from jointed pieces of Red Oak.
Individual chambers were made for each .50 caliber bullet shell chess piece. Antique watch gears and hands adorn the sides of the board. Intricate wood burning details are found all over the set. Each set will have its own unique artwork. Holes were bored into the sides and gears were set inside. You can make general requests if you like, and I will do my best to integrate them into my work. While etsy only has space for 5 images, I have shown the best angles I can.
Antique typewriter parts were used for the retaining rails to hold the pieces in. ( Your set may have a different part for the retaining rails, and it may have two rails per side.) The retaining rails are hinged to allow access to pieces. A custom made pin catch/ hasp locks the rail in place. The entire set is clear coated. The board has been dark weathered to give a unique rustic appearance.

This started life as a combination of parts from various sources. The handle and trigger assembly is a .99 cent neon green squirt gun from a Walgreens. The gold barrel is a plastic toilet paper roll holder.. the fancy knobby upper body of the gun is… A Turbo laser from a 1970’s era Kenner Death Star Playset.. a little glue and paint.. voila!
Those illuminating green tubes might look a bit OTT, but check out the intricate exposed mechanisims on the front panel. Jon Valjean’s Jules Verne won first prize in the xLAN case mod competition it’s easy to see why.
