USB Drive by Will Rockwell

Flash! Divers salvaging the remains of the Nautilus have recovered what appears to be Captain Nemo’s personal flash drive, or Pocket Memory, as they were once called. Even more amazing, the device still functions. Given its look, this beautiful copper and brass creation from the workshop of Will Rockwell looks like it really could have been Captain Nemos flash drive. Can you count all the repurposed screws, rivets and gears?

Alsatia by BlueLint

A 1998 Nerf Lightning Blitz modded. I never did post my other nerf mods (yet, I don’t know if I will or not) but this is my 3rd nerf mod. This took hours. The “worms” and chicken are all made of clay and painted. The whole gun had a repaint job.

Some inspiration came from the anime Rin:daughters of mnemosyne. (it’s mature anime, for nudity and violence in case anyone gets any ideas to watch it.) Which was a little bit of a freaky anime but ultimately after it was all said and done I really enjoyed it.

Ive started working on something that is somewhere in the intersection of sci-fi prop replica and useful tool:

a functional tricorder from Star Trek: The Next Generation. Introductory details and a video below.

Design goals:

Using a Playmates toy tricorder, create a reasonably good replica of the tricorders used on screen.

Make it able to collect useful measurements from the outside world

Use only non-contact sensors as a real one would

Use sensors that are not already available in my smartphone

Low cost

Light by Marcel Boonen

Recycling waste of our industrial society is the inspiration of my artwork. All of my sculptures are entirely hand made from recycled scrap metal such as copper, brass and steel . I create art with all kinds of technology and techniques to soften the design despite the roughness and robust properties of the material. Therefore I create art with a respectful atmosphere and sometimes funny or even cynical view of reality. My work emphasizes a balance between the form and function. It blurs the line between utensil and decoration. I’ve created various functional objects such as lamps and clocks who’ve been made from heavy metal scrap into mechanical decoration with an industrial style which I like to call Steampunk Art.

Wood stove

I am not sure if I will be using this in the house I am designing but the stove did need a few things. I made another brass bucket for the coal it uses and a much smaller copper teapot to go on the back burner today. Now I must make a coal shovel for it.

This was once the plastic the Chrysnbon parlor stove. It was in my very first post. I thought it was sort of sad looking in plastic. The kit it had lots of bright silvery “nickel” parts. I thought about casting those pieces in nickel silver for a duller look but decided against it.

Lantern Clock by hellboy

Hello All

here is my first Instructable, Its a beautiful Nixie Lantern clock, A little steam punk and a bit Victorian, made up of mostly of found components

I tend to communicate better when there is something to show so please look at the images and tags, they sometimes will hold more info than the body of text.

Here is a parts list….

-large slab of walnut 2″ thick by 36″ long and 12″ wide

-large slab of maple 1.5″ thick by 30″ long and 12″ wide, both found on eBay

-2″ diameter clear acrylic tubing .125″ wall about 12″ long, any plastic store and eBay.

-an assortment of gears and gauge faces / bezels, knobs and metal bits,

– A nixie kit, I highly recommend a seller on ebay who goes under the name…petes_kits, here is a link… petes_kits, http://shop.ebay.com/petes_kits/m.html?_trksid=p4340.l2562

he has to my knowledge the only nixie prototypers board out there that gives the experimenter options of screw terminals, solder pads and designated nixie patterned mounts for leads, not to mention he always answers and is there to help you out.

-you will need some basic electronic skills

-a multimeter with a continuity function (prefer an audible function).

-3 Blue leds

-A mill and lathe for custom parts, machining skills are very helpful

-lots of brass and aluminum

-all sorts of hardware and locktite

-12 conductor 28AWG ribbon cable

-9VAC transformer, wall wart

-assortment of gears, shafts and collars

and finally… lots of imagination…..
